Happy Bonfire Weekend! – An Oakley Update

We hope you all had a spectacularly spooky and safe Halloween last weekend – there were some great trick or treaters around, and some great events too.

No rest for the wicked though and this weekend brings with it Bonfire Night! Which once again means a warning about safety. It is usually safest to go to an organised event – Corby’s Bonfire and firework display will take place at the boating lake from 7pm – but if you are having fireworks at home here’s some top tips from Northamptonshire Police.

Bonfire Night safety tips:

-Sparklers are not suitable for children under five.

-Don’t drink alcohol if setting off fireworks.

-Always supervise children around fireworks.

-Never throw fireworks or put them in your pocket.

-Only buy fireworks marked BS 7114.

-Keep a bucket of water handy.

-Never return to a lit firework.

-Fireworks cannot be purchased by under 18s.

-Light fireworks at arm’s length, using a safety firework lighter or fuse wick.

-Keep fireworks in a closed box.

-Keep pets indoors.

-Follow firework instructions.

-Don’t let noisy fireworks off after 11pm.
