A roundup of sports in Corby

It has been another busy month of sport in and around Oakley Vale. Here are some of our highlights:

  • Corby Town FC Walking Football – Last week, Corby Town’s Walking Football team competed at a tournament in Brackley. The tournament featured 6 teams, meaning Corby began with 5 group games. The team competed well, winning 2 of the games, drawing 1, and narrowly losing the remaining 2 matches. This placed them second in the table, setting up a semi-final clash with Brackley.

In what was a tight game, Corby managed to progress after a nail-biting penalty shootout win, winning 8-7 on penalties. Corby marched into the final against Cherwell, and despite a valiant performance, they fell to a narrow 2-0 defeat. Making it to the final was a great accomplishment and the team showed great heart throughout. Well done to everyone involved!

  • Stewart and Lloyd’s Corby Cricket Club – History was recently made at Stewart and Lloyd’s CCC. Tony Thurman has become the first player to reach the magnificent milestone of 6000 runs and 400 wickets. His dedication and skill have set a new standard. Congratulations to Tony on this achievement!

Raising money for Florence at Oakley Fest

Last week saw Oakley Vale Community Centre host its annual fun day!

The day was packed full of exciting activities including inflatables, Buddy’s Fun Dog Show, archery, glitter art and more.

The event also saw fundraising for two brave children, 10-year-old Harry Reid, who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and 7-year-old Florence Bark, who is currently battling graft-versus host disease (GvHD) of the lungs.

On the day, visitors could contribute to a fundraising challenge by using treadmills, exercise bikes, and rowing machines. The community rallied together with a goal to collectively cycle 378 miles, the distance to Paris, raising money for Harry and Florence.

For more information on this event, you can visit HERE.

Click Harry’s JustGiving page to donate directly, or Florence’s BeMoreFab fundraising website to get involved in fundraising.
