Happy Friday! Another week passes and we’ve actually been lucky enough to avoid a storm and have some sun this week – long may it continue! It’s been a busy week for Oakley Vale and Corby, so here’s the best of what’s happened and what’s coming up:
Firstly, a huge thank you to our litter heroes who got involved in last week’s Great British Spring Clean! Litter is a huge cost to our communities across the country so thank you to those who got out and made a difference across Corby last week. We hope to have more news on a community-wide campaign to tackle litter to share with you shortly.
Last weekend saw Corby’s first Mardi Gras, which went brilliantly and looked like a great event that hopefully we’ll see for many years to come. There was even a segment on BBC Northamptonshire which you can watch on Facebook here.
Our local Oakley Vale Community Association Chairman, Paul Balmer, has been publishing some of the latest Corby Artworks videos on Facebook which are looking great and are a lovely reflection of our community. You can watch those here.
Now for upcoming events local to you, firstly a local Corby fundraiser for a great cause. The Conservative Club in Cottingham Road, are hosting a family fun day on Saturday, March 25, from midday to 3pm. This is to raise money for the family of a 10-year-old girl from the Corby area who has a very rare form of bone cancer. Read more here.
Maybe you’re looking for a challenge this weekend? Well, Get your thinking caps on, and prepare those specialist categories! The Great Oakley Village Hall is hosting a quiz night on Saturday, March 11th. The night kicks off from 6pm and is due to run until 10pm.
Also we’re pleased to have started liaising with Lakeland Hospice in Corby which do some great work and rely on the support of volunteers and community funding. They are hosting a great event on 31st March to fund-raise for their hospice. Nana Konadu has invited the hospice to her restaurant, Maamalicious, for an authentic Caribbean experience. Enjoy a delicious hot buffet with an array of mouth-watering Caribbean dishes, limbo dancing and afro reggae beats til late. £15 per person. To book your tickets call Marina on 01536 747755.
Don’t forget if you want to get in touch with us about anything then email info@wpe.spd.agency or message our Facebook or Twitter. We’re still pulling together our event calendar, which will be an exciting new addition to our website coming soon!
