Bank Holiday – Photo Competition Reminder!

Happy Friday!

The sun has got its hat on and hopefully it’s going to stay there throughout the bank holiday weekend – we hope your week has been fun and productive – and if it hasn’t, well, at least it’s Friday!

Photo Competition

We want to kick off this week’s blog with a reminder that we are accepting submissions for our latest Photo Competition RIGHT NOW! So if you’re out and about this bank holiday then get snapping! You can then submit your photo FREE and easily on our website here – https://oakleyvale.com/get-involved/photo-competition/ – or by submitting to our Facebook or Twitter pages.

You don’t have to be a master photographer either! The first winner of our competition earlier this year, Paul Finn, took his winning photo in his garden during the snow after he’d been at home with an injury.

The competition closes on 31st May and we will then pick a winning photo and that photographer will get £50! What more do you need?

Living Legends

Elsewhere we want to give another mention to the Living Legends: Hidden Histories event being run by our friends at Made in Corby from May 2nd until June 2nd.

Living Legends aims to uncover the hidden stories of Corby and reflect the changing face of the town. Taking inspiration from the ‘Human of New York’ social media campaign, they have found ten local people who have an extraordinary story to tell; an incredible experience, an under-celebrated achievement or a surprising fact about their life.

You can visit the FREE exhibition between 11.00am – 4.00pm (Wednesdays – Saturdays) at the Rooftop Arts Centre, NN17 1PD.

What’s On?

If that isn’t for you then here’s a look at what else is on at the minute in the area:

Living Legends: Hidden Histories @ Rooftop Arts Centre – May 2nd – June 2nd – Living Legends aims to uncover the hidden stories of Corby and reflect the changing face of the town.

Local History Talk – Tue 8th May – Join historian Peter Hill from 7pm – 9pm for a talk about Modern Corby (1900 to present day). Enjoy reminiscing with Peter as he recalls the times when changes seemed to affect every household. Find out more.

Textiles Workshops – Running until 9th May – Over 8 weeks, join artists Carole Miles and Phiona Richards from The Eloquent Fold to explore women’s rights through textiles. The group will work together to create a banner, which they will take to a major event in London on Sunday 10th June. Find out more.
