Merry Christmas to all in Oakley Vale!

Happy Thursday everyone!

This will be our last blog of the year before we turn the page for 2019! It’s been a memorable year – from the Beast from the East to the never-ending summer heatwave! – we hope 2018 has been kind to you and that 2019 bears even more happiness and prosperity.

Christmas is just around the corner and we wanted to dedicate today’s blog to a lovely act of kindness from Allison Homes and the Larkfleet Homes Community Fund.

Oakley Vale tree lit up by Allison Homes

The Christmas tree at the Oakley Vale Community Centre in Corby has been lit up with a grant from Allison Homes (www.allison-homes.co.uk) via the Larkfleet Homes Community Fund.

The fund has given £100 to pay for lights on the tree which has been erected outside the centre. The tree itself was donated by local landowner Great Oakley Estate.

Councillor Judy Caine, vice-chair of the trustees at the centre, said: “Community-building is a large part of our remit as trustees on this relatively new and fast-growing estate.

“We wanted to have a Christmas tree around which all members of our community could gather and sing some carols. As we have 18 languages spoken on Oakley Vale, I’m hoping we may even get to share carols from different cultures – although this may be a little ambitious for our first event.

“We will also enjoy mulled wine and mince pies together (hot chocolate and gingerbread for the children).

“We are very grateful for the donation from the Larkfleet Homes Community Fund which has helped to make this possible.”

Photo Competition

Don’t forget that submissions are open for our winter-themed photography competition. Send in your pictures over the Christmas period!

The chosen winner will be rewarded with a £50 prize – see last season’s winner here – and a further £50 donation will be made to the Oakley Vale Community Association when the prize is announced.

The deadline for entries is Friday 18th January 2019, and the winner will be announced after the voting period in February 2019.
