Happy September Oakley Valers.
Where did August go? The summer has been a busy (and scorching) one and we hope you’ve managed to get away – to see friends or family, to visit new places and do new things.
But now, as Autumn rolls around, those of us with impressive jumper collections and a penchant for hot drinks on cold days come into our element! This month we’re launching our latest seasonal photo competition after an impressive winner last month (catch up with our August blog to see that!)
We’ve got lots to discuss, so lets get to it…
Another year, another great set of results for Oakley Vale students
After some truly turbulent and difficult years, students were able to regain some semblance of normality this year in their education – and the rewards have been reaped in some great results across the region.
Close to home, students at Brooke Weston Academy in Oakley Vale celebrated another set of fantastic GCSE exam results. The academy’s Principal, Shaun Strydom said: “All of our students have worked incredibly hard throughout this difficult period, and we are so proud of their achievements. In particular, I would like to say a huge thank you to all of our staff for their ongoing efforts and for the support and motivation they have provided to our students during this time.”
The school’s top performing student was Marcus Ciobanu who achieved grade 9’s in all of his subjects! While, Charlotte Fletcher, Ruby Gardiner, Mia Brown and Amelia Millier all achieved grade 8’s and 9’s in every subject.
Over at A Level, Brooke Weston’s top performing students included Dominika Gubanska, Oliver Hackett, Rouza Nadeem and Daniel Nicholson who collectively achieved twelve A* grades!
A huge congratulations to all the local students in Oakley Vale and across Corby for their hard work. A new chapter in life begins! Click to find more on the GCSE and A Level results.
A free family fun day in Oakley Vale!
Oakley Vale Community Centre is holding a family fun day on Saturday (September 10), to get people back out and enjoying each other’s company post-pandemic.
The event is free and runs from 11am to 5pm – and you can expect to see: a bouncy castle, a slide, a kids disco dome, stalls, a raffle, face painting, a tombola, a magician, a circus skills workshop, fete games, and live performances.
A huge thank you to the Community Centre for putting it on. It sounds like a lovely way to enjoy the last of the summer weather.
Our new photo competition launches!
We had a great selection of entries in the summer theme of our Oakley Vale photo competition this year. The worth winner was Tom Piechaczek whose photo captured the gorgeous hazy feeling that’s blanketed the country over the last few weeks and months. He also did an amazing job of showing the way our homes in Oakley Vale unite with pockets of nature and wildlife
After such a great selection of photos last time out, we’re excited to be launching our Autumn Theme in this month’s blog. Entries will be open until October 31st (Halloween!) – so you’ve got some time to adjust to the cooler weather, wrap up and get some great shots of our community.
That’s all for this blog – if you have something going on in the area that you want to shout about, get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to promote here in our blogs, or on our social media channels!
