May was packed with lavishly long weekends, sunny days and royal celebrations, but there is still much to look forward to this June, with Father’s Day fast approaching and summer just around the corner.
June is an exciting month for many. Everyone is either heading out for a picnic, turning on their holiday out of the office or simply enjoying the feeling of longer, summer days. Bluer skies, warm breezes and the smell of sizzling grills are a hallmark of the season, and we’re counting down the days until the first official day of summer (which is 21st June!)
In the meantime, read on for how to spend June and the coming summer months, as well as a local story about Corby’s Pen Green who received an inspirational visit.
Pen Green in Corby welcomes Fatima Whitbread, MBE to the centre
Two-time Olympic medallist, Fatima Whitbread MBE visited Pen Green on Tuesday 23rd May, where she met with staff, children and families supported by the charity.
Fatima learned about the key role the centre has in many aspects of family life and attended a drop-in stay-and-play session for up to four-year-olds. She chatted with families about the importance of Pen Green and what it means to them.
She said: “It is a place of belonging. Most of the mums that come here, feel like this is like their home and I can understand why because it’s a basic security net under them and we need more of these Pen Green centres.”
