Following our first blog feature on his blossoming gardening skills, we caught up with Derek (D) again about his photography tips for capturing a winning photo…
Q: Again, a huge congratulations on being our latest Photo Competition winner. Tell us a bit about what inspires you to take photos.
D: I find nature to be the most inspiring subject. I love discovering new places where I can photograph beautiful landscapes and wildlife.
One of my other passions is baking, which I also enjoy photographing! I bake pancakes and cookies for myself and my friends, which brings me a lot of joy.
Q: What’s your favourite photo you’ve taken?
D: It’s hard to choose just one! Each photo is special in its own way.
It probably has to be my winning photo of the swan, doesn’t it?! That photo holds a special place in my heart.
I recently came across one of my most interesting photos. It captured a herd of deer, right near our Oakley Vale estate! I was so surprised to find them so close to home, and it made me appreciate how our neighbourhood provides a habitat for such diverse wildlife.
The photo reminded me of Bradgate Park Trust in Leicester, albeit in a different setting. I highly recommend visiting this stunning park if you haven’t. It’s an easy day trip from Oakley Vale.
Q: What advice would you give when it comes to taking photos?
D: Do what you love in life.
If you enjoy taking photos, just grab your camera and start shooting. Passion will fuel your creativity and make every photo you take more enjoyable.
